γ-ray luminosity function of γ-ray bright AGNs

چکیده
Detection of γ-ray emission from a class of active galactic nuclei (viz blazars), has been one of the important findings from the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO). However, their γ-ray luminosity function has not been well determined. Few attempts have been made in earlier works, where BL Lacs and Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs) have been considered as a single source class. In this paper we investigated the evolution and γ-ray luminosity function of FSRQs and BL Lacs separately. Our investigation indicates no evolution for BL Lacs, however FSRQs show significant evolution. Pure luminosity evolution is assumed for FSRQs and exponential and power law evolution models are examined. Due to the small number of sources, the low luminosity end index of the luminosity function for FSRQs is constrained with upper limit. BL Lac luminosity function shows no signature of break. As a consistency check, the model source distributions deriving from these luminosity functions show no significant departure from the observed source distributions.

A Connection between Apparent Vlba Jet Speeds and Initial Active Galactic Nucleus Detections Made by the Fermi Gamma-ray Observatory
In its first three months of operations, the Fermi Gamma-Ray Observatory has detected approximately one quarter of the radio-flux-limited MOJAVE sample of bright flat-spectrum active galactic nuclei (AGNs) at energies above 100 MeV. We have investigated the apparent parsec-scale jet speeds of 26 MOJAVE AGNs measured by the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) that are in the LAT bright AGN sample (L...
متن کاملConfirmation of a Correlation between the X-ray Luminosity and Spectral Slope of Agns in the Chandra Deep Fields
We present results from a statistical analysis of 173 bright radio-quiet AGNs selected from the Chandra Deep Field-North and Chandra Deep Field-South surveys (hereafter, CDFs) in the redshift range of 0.1 . z . 4. We find that the X-ray power-law photon index (Γ) of radio-quiet AGNs is correlated with their 2–10 keV rest-frame X-ray luminosity (LX) at the > 99.5% confidence level in two redshif...
متن کاملBlack hole masses and Doppler factors of γ - ray active galactic nuclei
The sizes of the broad-line regions (BLRs) in γ-ray active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are estimated from their optical continuum luminosity by using the empirical relation between RBLR and Lλ,opt. Using the broad emission line data, we derive the photon energy density in the relativistic blobs near the massive black holes in AGNs. We calculate the power of the broad-line photons Compton up-scattere...
متن کاملThe Hard X-ray Spectral Slope as an Accretion-rate Indicator in Radio-quiet Active Galactic Nuclei
We present new XMM-Newton observations of two luminous and high accretion-rate radio-quiet active galactic nuclei (AGNs) at z ∼ 2. Together with archival X-ray and rest-frame optical spectra of three sources with similar properties as well as 25 moderate-luminosity radio-quiet AGNs at z < 0.5, we investigate, for the first time, the dependence of the hard ( > ∼ 2 keV) X-ray power-law photon ind...
متن کاملRadio and Gamma-ray Properties of Extragalactic Jets from the TANAMI Sample
Using high-resolution radio imaging with VLBI techniques, the TANAMI program has been observing the parsec-scale radio jets of southern (declination south of −30◦) γ-ray bright AGN simultaneously with Fermi /LAT monitoring of their γ-ray emission. We present the radio and γ-ray properties of the TANAMI sources based on one year of contemporaneous TANAMI and Fermi /LAT data. A large fraction (72...
